Ford U.S. September sales drop 34 per cent, GM down 16 per cent

DETROIT - Tight credit, economic worries and high gasoline prices cut automakers’ U.S. sales once again in September, with beleaguered Ford Motor Co. reporting a 34 per cent decline from the same month last year.

DEARBORN, Michigan The gloomy mood of the U.S. auto industry continued on Wednesday, as Ford reported that September sales are down 34 percent versus a year ago. Other automakers reporting sales declines for September include Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Smart and Volkswagen.
