Government Now Investigating Ford Tires
An alert to drivers of all cars, but especially to drivers of Ford vehicles. The government is investigating more than one million Ford Motor Company vehicles after receiving reports of tires leaking because of faulty valve stems. ABC2 News Investigators first brought you this story last month, when we talked to a widow who told us she lost her husband and father of her child to an accident linked to faulty valve stems. Valve stems are the small rubber tube drivers use to put air in their tires.
Ford says the investigation involves 12-vehicles from the 2007 model year. The vehicles with the valve stems include the Ford F-150, Mustang, Edge, Fusion, Expedition, Explorer, Focus and Escape, the Mercury Grand Marquis, MKX, MKZ, and Milan. It is important to note the Chinese company supplying Ford the valve stems also supplies valve stems to other car companies.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration told ABC2News Investigators as many as 30-million tires with defective valves could be on the road.
