Ford rolls out with its first plug-in hybrid in California
In a series of brilliant public relations moves in the wake of skyrocketing gas prices, Ford offers a glimpse of things to come in auto hybrid technology. Ford has just delivered the first in a series of 20 vehicles to a Southern California Edison facility for rigorous testing. The well received news event was held at the EVS23 conference which begins the two-year pilot program between the previously struggling auto maker and Southern California Edison.
Ford hopes that it will eventually have their customers testing the hybrid Escape SUV’s with a leasing program. At this time, Ford has only give the hybrid Escape the “research” title and is equipped with a 30-mile fully electric power only range on a full battery charge, but when the battery is fully depleted, the hybrid escape then switches to the conventional gas-electric hybrid that we have all come to know and love.
Ford claims that this new hybrid Escape can clock up to 120mpg, under the right conditions of course.
